Our Story
From One Struggle to Many Successes — The Journey Behind Wake Up Marketing
Wake Up Marketing was founded three years ago by Obada Al Fares, but the journey truly began much earlier — in 2018 — when my family and I opened our first business in Canada.
After fleeing war in Syria, we came to this country with hope, gratitude, and a strong desire to give back to the community that welcomed us. Starting a business felt like the best way to do that. But we quickly realized how difficult it would be. We didn’t speak English well, didn’t understand the business system here, and had to open a shop in a completely different field than what we knew back home.
We faced setback after setback. We lost money before we even opened the doors. We had to borrow just to stay afloat. When we finally opened, we had very few customers. I was working 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day, hoping things would turn around.
Back home, I grew up in the markets — helping my dad manage seven shops, calling out to people on the streets, bringing them into our stores. But in Canada, it was different. Everyone was on their phones — and that’s when it clicked. If I wanted people’s attention, I needed to meet them where they were: online.
While waiting for college to begin, I started teaching myself digital marketing. I experimented with online ads, learned through trial and error, and after six months, our sales turned around — from losses to making over $3,000 a month. That was the turning point. I realized the power of online marketing, and I fell in love with it.
Within a year and a half, our shop became successful. We received offers to sell, but when my father asked if I wanted to take it over, I said no. I wanted to help other businesses grow — just like I did with ours.
I kept learning, taking courses, and building my skills. At first, no one wanted to hire me — and I understood why. So, I worked for free. I helped a few businesses generate real sales. They believed in me, started investing in me, and began spreading the word.
That’s how Wake Up Marketing was born — not through ads or cold calls, but through real results and honest relationships. Our growth came from word of mouth, trust, and a genuine passion to help others succeed.
Today, Wake Up Marketing is a growing agency with an amazing team. We still serve those first three clients who gave me my first chance — and they’ve become like brothers to me.
This journey is about more than marketing. It’s about resilience, purpose, and giving back. And we’re just getting started.
